FULL TIME MAGISTRATE APPLICATION NOW BEING ACCEPTED

Chief Magistrate Kristina Hammer Blum is pleased to announce the opening of one full time Magistrate Judge position.

To meet the minimum legal qualifications (O.C.G.A. § 15-10-22 and § 15-6-4), each Applicant must:
* be at least 30 years of age;
* have been a citizen of the State of Georgia for at least three (3) years;
* be a citizen of the United States;
* have been a member, in good standing, of the State Bar of Georgia for at least seven (7) years;
* be a registered voter; and
* have been a resident of Gwinnett County for for at least two (2) years.

To be eligible for consideration, a completed Application Package must be received by the Administrative Office of the Courts on or before 5:00 PM on October 25, 2024.   Each Applicant must submit thirteen (13) unbound copies of the Application Package, which consists of the following: resume with cover letter; completed Magistrate Court Application & Questionnaire; signed Authorization Form; and completed Judicial Ethics Quiz. Even if you have applied in the past, you must submit a new Application Package to be considered.

The Magistrate Court Application/Questionnaire and Judicial Ethics Quiz can be accessed through the links below. Hard copies of same can be obtained during normal business hours from the Administrative Office of the Courts, located on the third floor of the Gwinnett County Justice and Administration Building.

Effective January 2, 2021, Magistrate Court e-filing fees are changed to a one-time flat fee of $14 per case per party. This change applies to all newly filed as well as existing cases.

Magistrate Court's jurisdiction encompasses civil claims of $15,000 or less, county ordinance violations, applications for and issuance of arrest and search warrants, preliminary hearings, dispossessory writs, and distress warrants. No jury trials are held in this court. Appeals from decisions in landlord, tenant and civil cases are made to the Superior and State courts.
